I’m really starting to get into traktor now, it’s a lovely little program. Have done some really nice mixes today. As it happens the DM2 is becoming more and more redundant the more I learn about Traktor. Still, it’s a nice toy.
It seems the trick with Traktor is to spend a little more time working with the mp3’s before you play them. Specifically; Traktor analyses the track and takes a guess at the BPM using whatever software wizardry it contains. This guess is usually pretty accurate (at least when you give it a nice 4/4 house or techno track, give it some glitch and it loses the plot totally
) but the BPM is just the beginning. Then you need to set beat markers to tell traktor where the bars are and then buzz up and down the track and fine tune the tempo until the beat markers match the track all the way to the end.
Once this is done traktor can keep the two tunes perfectly beatmatched for effectively the length of the song. Feels kind of like cheating actually.
Still I was never good enough on vinyl to beatmatch for minutes at an end so this is fantastic to play with.
